Fourth Week Reflection

While I was in Summer Scholars I was shown many things about myself and others. This experience is probably the best possible thing for an upcoming college student. There are so many great people involved in the program from the resident advisers in the dorm to all the students in the program. Each task we were faced with gave us even more insight into what it takes to be a college student. If I had ever second guessed choosing to apply to the program I definitely know now that it was one of the best decisions.
I feel as though going to the high ropes course was a pivotal time because that brought us all closer immediately. We all were going through the same feelings and it really broke the ice. The individual ropes course was the most life changing because we had to depend on ourselves and there was no way out once you are up there. There may have been, but it would have been difficult. I was 50ft in the air and hysterically crying, but I know when I finally finished I felt the most accomplished I ever had.
Being in this program I learned that time goes by faster than I may have thought and it is very important to put your all into whatever you do. There are so many resources available to me and I should take advantage of every last one. There are people waiting to help you and I used to never seek help and because of Summer Scholars I will from now on. Summer Scholars gave me all the tools I need to succeed.
In Summer Scholars we were given the task of working with a student from about 5th to 8th grade. My partner and I worked with a young boy named Chance. We had four projects. The first was a collage of all the careers he was interested in. He wanted to be a football player and an astronaut. Then we eventually had to write an essay on why he wanted to be one. He wasn't that interested, but we showed him that it's important to have a plan. Plans map your future and if you want to be succesful they are absolutely necessary.
